Self Reliant Diver
Dive Independently: PADI Self-Reliant Diver Specialty
With proper training, equipment, and the right mindset, experienced divers can learn to safely dive without a buddy. While self-reliant diving isn’t for everyone, it’s a powerful skill set that strengthens your confidence—whether you’re diving alone, with a partner, or as part of a team.
The PADI Self-Reliant Diver course teaches you how to manage emergencies, plan dives using air consumption calculations, and use redundant systems to stay safe and self-sufficient underwater.
What You'll Learn
- How to calculate your personal air consumption rate and use it for dive planning.
- Switching to a redundant air supply system during simulated emergencies.
- Swimming without a mask and handling other solo-specific situations.
- Advanced underwater navigation and return strategies.
- Deploying and using a DSMB (delayed surface marker buoy) effectively.
