Junior Dive Academy – San Diego Youth Ocean Adventure Camp
Ocean Enterprises’ Junior Dive Academy (JDA) is a hands-on ocean program for kids ages 8 and up. Through snorkeling, pool-based SCUBA experiences, and marine science, campers build water skills, ocean awareness, and lifelong confidence in the water.
From exploring La Jolla's iconic coastal habitats to learning how to safely interact with marine life, JDA encourages a love for the ocean and supports future divers in a fun, safe, and conservation-focused environment.
Camp Overview
- For ages 8–12 (older campers considered upon request)
- Weeklong camps run Monday–Friday, 10 AM–4 PM
- Includes pool SCUBA sessions and guided ocean snorkeling
- Half-day classroom + half-day water activities
- Low 1:4 instructor-to-camper ratio
- 25% off in-store snorkel gear purchases
2025 Camp Themes & Dates
- Sea Lions and Seals: June 9–13
- Cetacean Migrations: June 23–27
- Rocky Reefs and Kelp Forests: July 7–11
- Leopard Sharks and Rays: July 21–25
- Marine Protected Areas: August 4–8
Campers who complete all five themes earn a Junior Dive Academy Recognition. Camps can be repeated for more practice and experience.
Program Highlights
- PADI Bubblemaker (ages 8–9) or Discover SCUBA (ages 10+)
- Three beach days with snorkeling, tide pooling, and games
- Two pool days for swim assessment and SCUBA practice
- Daily classroom sessions with marine science and ocean safety
- Friday SCUBA pool party—parents invited to watch!
Logistics & Safety
Camps are based at Ocean Enterprises, with ocean days at Mission Bay, La Jolla Shores, and La Jolla Cove. Drop-off is at OE; pickup on Friday is at USD Sports Center pool. A minimum of 3 campers is required.
Campers must be able to swim and be willing to participate in water activities. Gear rental is included and fitting is done on Day 1. A PADI diver medical form is required for SCUBA sessions.
